ZILA Bioworks Identity

ZILA Bioworks is an early stage biomaterials startup, aiming to realize a circular bioeconomy in the industrial material supply chain. Their first commercial product is Hempoxy, a patented bio-epoxy resin made from industrial hemp, used in high-performance and harsh conditions.

We partnered with ZILA to develop a mission, vision, and brand manifesto, define a tone of voice for their distinct audiences, and developed a bold new visual identity and system to support their continued growth.

Logo

The logo is an abstraction of the infinity symbol, representing the cyclical nature of recycled materials in the circular bioeconomy. This attention to protecting & living in harmony with the environment is also reflected in the name ZILA, derived from the Sanskrit word Śīla, referring to the discipline of ethical living.

Brand Positioning

In addition to the visual identity system, we also helped to define the brand strategy and positioning. We identified ZILA's brand persona as a builder: building better systems, better products, better communities. Relentless testing, rigorous systems analysis, and a passion for innovation gets ZILA there. We focused the brand story on ZILA’s dedication to building better, more sustainable processes and bio-materials from beginning to end—a ladder-up approach that understands that tackling problems at the micro level has the potential for macro-sized impact.
